Pastors Are VIPs at the SGT Ministry EXPO!

If you are a Pastor of a church on Long Island or in the Greater New York City area, we invite you to come and be inspired at this year’s SGT Ministry EXPO.

What is an EXPO?

The modern “expo” concept goes back at least 225 years to “an industrial exhibition” held in honor of “the coronation of Leopold II as king of Bohemia” featuring a “considerable sophistication of manufacturing methods.”1 The idea behind an expo is to bring together in one place the most innovative, cutting edge technology, methods, inventions, etc., contemporary and relevant to the times. So, how does this apply to the SGT Ministry EXPO?

What is the SGT Ministry EXPO?

The SGT Ministry EXPO began as a means for the Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle to showcase its ministries to its own congregation for the purpose of helping them find ministries that can minister to them and to help them find ministries that they can come alongside of and participate in (for more click to read our Dreaming Big document).

Last year, we began inviting outside ministry guests and local church pastors and their congregations.

This year’s guests are Xulon Publishing, Oral Roberts University, and Open Gates Ministries from here on Long Island.

Why should local pastors come to the EXPO?

Most importantly, it is our hope that the eighty or so ministries on display from SGT plus our outside guests will provide ideas, inspiration, and encouragement for pastors and their leaders to take back to their own churches. Perhaps it will be the idea of the EXPO itself. In any case, it is a great day of encouragement for ministries. Our vision for the EXPO is that we would reach for and demonstrate—or have demonstrated to us—the latest technologies, the newest ideas, and the most cutting edge ministry tools possible! That we would be inspired and have our own visions for ministry made larger! The EXPO is not simply for our own local church, but for all the churches and ministries on Long Island, the greater New York City area, and beyond. Big vision? Yes! But great achievement begins with the smallest of persistent efforts!

Secondly, we want to honor our local pastors by giving them the VIP treatment! This includes comping a meal for the pastor and his or her guest and a gift bag. Just let us know you are coming and check-in at the EXPO tent when you arrive.

When?

Here is a link that will answer logistical questions.  However, of course pastors have their own services on Sunday! So, just know that lunch is served at 12 noon (for as long as it is available), the variety show starts at 3 (it will be standing room only), and the exhibits will be in place until 3 pm.

Pastors, we hope to see you at the EXPO!

Welcome to the EXPO Blog Site SGT Family!

The EXPO is only seven days away! Here are the reasons you should plan to be at SGT ALL DAY LONG next Sunday, September 18…

First, it satisfies one of the goals of our church’s Vision Statement: “To CONNECT with one another in fellowship…”

The EXPO is a full and fun opportunity to connect with others at SGT and to enjoy great food and fellowship. Since food makes fellowship more fun, here’s the menu from the EXPO Cafe:

Grilled chicken with roasted peppers, prosciutto and topped with mozzarella, accompanied with a port wine Demi glacé served on a bed of roasted garlic smashed potatoes. Eggplant rollentini- thinly sliced eggplant, stuffed with pesto angel hair pasta. Topped with homemade marinara and melted mozzarella. And a salad.

Wow! Right? Now, fun also makes fellowship more…well…fun, there will be loads of that as well!

You can get your picture taken at the Happy Faces Photobooth, chase down the EXPO Blue Light Specials that will be happening from 1 until 3 pm, try and keep up with all that the Center (SGT’s youth group), the Royal Rangers, and the SGT Kids will be doing, AND DON’T FORGET The EXPO Family Variety Show at 3 pm! Plus, there are always lots of great giveaways at the ministry booths!

The second way that the SGT Ministry EXPO satisfies SGT’s Vision Statement is by helping to create an environment where you can to experience “the transforming power of the Holy Spirit through…serving in ministry!”

The EXPO is the perfect time to discover ministries that can minister to you and your family, and also to discover ministries you can become a part of! For those who come to the EXPO from other churches, the ministries represented will serve to inspire them to reach even higher heights for the Kingdom of God. This year’s special guests include:

The 2016 SGT Ministry EXPO: Still Dreaming Big!

Two years ago, the “beta” version of the EXPO was a showcase for ministries with the purpose of recruiting people into involvement in ministry in the local church and/or to shine a light on ministries they can benefit from. Last year, EXPO 2.0 continued with that purpose but expanded the vision to include some regional/national level ministries such as Xulon Press, Regent University, and Logos Bile Software. We also extended an invitation to regional churches to come and be exposed to the ministries of SGT, and our regional/national guests, for the purpose of inspiring them in their own ministry contexts and perhaps even to inspire them to duplicate those ministries in their own ministry venues. Of course, the purpose for invitiGopher with dogtagsng regional and national level guests is that all participants would be inspired and challenged by the visions and operations of those ministries.

Our vision for the EXPO is that we would reach for and demonstrate—or have demonstrated to us—the latest technologies, the newest ideas, and the most cutting edge ministry tools possible! That we would be inspired and have our own visions for ministry made larger! The EXPO is not simply for our own local church, but for all the churches and ministries on Long Island, the greater New York City area, and beyond. Big vision? Yes! But great achievement begins with the smallest of persistent efforts!

So, what might this vision look like if we can achieve it? First, let me be clear: the EXPO is not about luring people from other churches to our church. This is counter to what we are all about at SGT. It is, rather, an opportunity for us to demonstrate possibilities for ministry that can be imported by others into their churches. Those possibilities for ministry may be ministries already happening at SGT. However, they may be ministries that can be demonstrated to us at the EXPO by guests we can invite for that purpose. The main criterion for a regional/national ministry or business to be considered for the EXPO is they must have something useful and innovative to offer to the body of Christ.

The ultimate goal of the 2016 SGT Ministry EXPO is, at the end of the day, that people from near and far will come to the EXPO and leave having enjoyed good Christian fellowship, food, and fun. But more importantly, that they will leave inspired to do great things for God and His Kingdom!
